Bingo Etiquette: The Beginner's Guide

All casino games have their own set of rules concerning proper behavior, and Bingo is no exception. Bingo etiquette, even for first time players, is as easy to follow as the game itself.

A lot of people now play online, one of the reasons being it provides them a great alternative in case the Bingo hall is some distance away. When you enter a Bingo chat/game room, you will see someone there designated as the supervisor, and his role is the same as that of the traditional manager in commercial halls: maintaining order.

Each online room may have specific rules, but general guidelines for online Bingo etiquette include being polite; that is, do not sweat, curse or shout (via all caps) at other players. Do not bad mouth the site, or accuse it of cheating in case you lose. If you have a complaint, there are proper forums in which to address them (i.e., email the support staff).

With regards to commercial Bingo halls, the rules and regulations are always posted, or given to participants, so be sure to read them. Most are for individuals 18 and above, but some may restrict play for those above 21, so verify this first.

While a social game, Bingo etiquette states that the noise and chatter should be toned down the moment the game commences. As for food and beverage, there are different rules; some halls would like you to purchase the products they are selling, and others allow you to bring your own snacks.

If you bring your kids with you, it is important to keep them quiet during game play, as this can distract the other players. Also, when you bring your friends, it is only proper Bingo etiquette to have them purchase tickets. Some halls will allow you to bring them in for free, but do not abuse this hospitality.

Another issue to consider is smoking and drinking. Needless to say you should only smoke in the designated areas. If there are no specific rules, you can either ask the manager, or better yet, if no one else on the table is smoking, just restrain yourself.

As with all games, you cannot win them all. Win or lose, be a sport and do not take it out on the manager or the caller. When you are playing Bingo online, do not go around complaining that the system is rigged so you cannot win the jackpot; that is not the case at all. The truth is that you can win.

Bingo etiquette as previously stated, is simple to follow. Coming right down to it, it is nothing more than normal social conventions that you should be practicing anyway. Just follow the rules and whether you are in a commercial or online hall, you will have a good time guaranteed.
